Coronavirus – Quick Update 3/14/20

A number of clients have reached out to me for more information on how to manage the current pandemic.  I posted here in early February on the virus, and now have some updated information.

First, the not so good news.  The homeopathic community has no current consensus on a “genus epidemicus,” which means a remedy that can be taken as prophylaxis for the virus.  The Gelsemium recommendation that was discussed in my previous post has not come to fruition beyond the early cases in China.

The good news is that the non-homeopathic recommendations regarding lifestyle, diet, and supplements still stand.  Here is a wonderful list from Dr. Amy Rothenberg:

  • It’s a perfect time to cut down on alcohol, sugar and refined foods
  • Vitamin C 1,000mg
  • Vitamin D, 2,000IU
  • Zinc 10-15mg
  • Elderberry (Sambucas nigra) one teaspoon syrup daily
  • Mushroom Immune Formula that has several mushrooms, 2-3 times a week
  • Resveratrol (may work with MERS-Cov) 500mg
  • Good rest, and enough sleep
  • Sufficient hydration
  • Practice stress reduction techniques and keep up with exercise!

I like this post from Dr Rothenberg as well.

From a homeopathic perspective, the best thing you can do is continue optimal utilization of your chronic/constitutional remedy.  The remedy you take is meant to keep your system functioning at its highest level… this includes your immune system.

As a homeopathic client, your responsibility is to monitor your own health on the remedy.  If you feel worse or much better, or different symptoms, it’s time to stop the remedy and contact me.  You should also be having regular followup appointments to monitor your progress; this is an inherent part of the homeopathic process.

As I mentioned, we don’t yet have a genus epidemicus to use as prophylaxis.  However, I obviously understand the desire to do whatever you can for protection.  While I am not specifically recommending this to my clients at this time, I am OK with a client taking one of the following:

  • Influenzinum – either 30c (2-3 times a week) or 200c (once per week)

OR

  • Oscillococcinum (1-2 times a week).  A note on Oscillo… don’t take the whole vial as recommended.  Perhaps 1/4 or even 1/10 of a vial is enough as a dose.

[OUTDATED INFORMATION – I hope to have more prophylactic information soon]

Only use ONE prophylactic remedy at a time.  More is worse, not better.

If you do choose one of these options, take it on a day when you are not taking your chronic remedy.

More importantly, follow the diet and lifestyle recommendations above.

If you do come down with an acute, please schedule an acute illness appointment with me so we can pin down a remedy for your individual presentation.

Stay Healthy!
